Research Planner

Support product and service projects with a focus on consumer/user research

Capabilities

The key areas of knowledge, competencies and experience you will need:

  •  2+ years relevant experience within the industry
  • A keen interest in, and experience of design research and strategy
  • Experience of designing qualitative design research projects and experience of a broad range of research methodologies
  • Capacity for analytical and intuitive thinking and the ability to synthesise insights and help our team identify opportunities and develop strategies
  • A systematic and structured approach to problem solving
  • Ability to deal with complexity, ambiguity and paradox
  • Clear written communication skills and the ability to summarise ideas and observations clearly and concisely
  • Proficiency in InDesign and Photoshop
  • Enthusiasm for team work and eagerness to learn and help
  • Capacity to work rigorously with a high attention to detail and quality
  • Good management of time and priorities

 

Key tasks

Projects

  • Advise on projects with research elements
  • Manage the set-up, moderation and capture of design research
  • Analyse consumer research data to help uncover insights and identify opportunities
  • Prepare, facilitate and capture client workshops
  • Work with senior members to develop compelling research presentations to communicate insights and opportunities
  • Project manage medium to smaller projects
  • Support with proposal writing

 

Development and culture

  • Rapidly assimilate Plan’s tools and processes
  • Assist in developing and maintaining our design research resources
  • Maintain a strong focus on self-development and the acquisition of further knowledge
  • Willingness to guide and mentor junior staff
  • Make suggestions on how to develop our culture, processes and tools
  • Share industry news, suggest new business ideas and contribute to social media activities

Service strategist

Help develop our product-service strategy accounts by managing and delivering projects, and providing excellent client service.

Knowledge, competences and experience

  • 3+ years experience as a service designer/researcher for digital experiences, preferably educated to post-graduate level in a related discipline
  • Experience of applying a variety of service design methodologies to a variety of complex business challenges – particularly at the front-end of the process
  • Able to create compelling service visions and develop strategic concepts, looking at the bigger picture (people, business, technology)
  • Able to systematically break down and analyse a client problem, and work creatively to develop a process to solve it
  • Experience in planning, managing and conducting qualitative research
  • Experience in planning and facilitating effective collaboration workshops
  • Appreciation of technical and organisational implementation issues around service design
  • Able to develop cogent points of view on service strategies and share confidently with team, client and partners
  • Can communicate recommendations in a clear and visually engaging manner, and with a compelling narrative to senior client audiences
  • Experience in writing successful proposals and managing project budgets
  • Used to juggling projects, priorities and resources

Key tasks

Service design strategy

  • Research and analyse contextually (social, technological and competitive)
  • Map service ecosystems and blueprints and direct their visualisation
  • Plan user research, lead insight analysis and identify opportunity areas
  • Envision product-service concepts
  • Create frameworks, tools and training programmes that enhance our clients’ organisational abilities
  • Facilitate client forums and training events alongside company Directors and Consultants

Business and offer development

  • Work with Directors to break down and structure clients’ issues and frame new projects
  • Help write proposals for complex product-service strategy projects with existing and new clients
  • Contribute to  business development meetings
  • Develop Plan’s service strategy capability

Client service

  • Deal with clients empathetically and confidently
  • Recognise and anticipate client needs and explore ways Plan can help
  • Resolve difficult questions and issues
  • Build trust and relationships

Product strategy consultant

Help develop our client accounts by managing and delivering front-end innovation projects.

Knowledge, competences and experience

  • A background in product/interaction/service design, preferably educated to post-graduate level
  • Experience in front-end innovation projects
  • Able to deal with complexity, ambiguity and paradox
  • Mix rigour with creativity
  • Combines a big picture perspective with an eye for product experience detail
  • Can systematically breakdown and tackle problems
  • Works rigorously with a high attention to detail and quality
  • Experience of managing projects and project teams
  • Able to juggle priorities to get things done in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong verbal, written and graphic communicator

Key tasks

  • Manage multidisciplinary project teams, which include people at Plan and external partners.
  • Understand and develop cogent points of view on our clients’ key issues
  • Write successful proposals and managing project budgets
  • Work with senior team members to facilitate and guide client teams through project processes

  • Deliver insightful, strategic and compelling presentations to senior management audiences

Planner

Support product and service strategy projects for our mobility, consumer technology and healthcare clients

Knowledge, competences and experience

The key areas of knowledge, competencies and experience you will need:

  • be a recent product/service design graduate (or similar) with previous work experience
  • have a keen interest in, and experience of, consumer research, user experience design and service design
  • be an analytical and intuitive thinker who can use both sides of your brain to help our team identify opportunities, develop strategies
  • have a systematic and structured approach to problem solving
  • be an enthusiastic team player, who is eager to learn and help
  • be able to deal with complexity, ambiguity and paradox
  • be a compelling visual communicator, proficient in InDesign and Photoshop
  • be a clear written communicator, able to summarise ideas and observations clearly and 
concisely
  • work rigorously with a high attention to detail and quality

Key tasks

  • assist in the set-up, moderation and capturing of design research
  • analyse  research data to help uncover insights and identify opportunities
  • develop service and UX strategies, and create tools that help our clients implement their strategies
  • craft  visuals to communicate complex ideas in simple and compelling ways
  • assist in the set-up, running and capturing of client workshops
  • work with senior members of our team to develop compelling presentations, books 
and interactive deliverables
  • set-up and organise project data and resources
  • track industry trends and keep our team updated on relevant news
  • manage internal knowledge management resources e.g. archiving projects, 
updating image bank etc
