Senior FMCG research consultant

Help develop Plan’s consumer research capabilities, working for some of the world’s biggest FMCG brands

Knowledge, competences and experience

The key areas of knowledge, competencies and experience you will need:

  • Experienced professional with at least five years experience of working in FMCG consumer and shopper research
  • At least two years specialising in NPD and innovation contexts
  • Analytical and intuitive thinker who can use both sides of their brain to solve problems in systematic and creative ways
  • Highly visually and culturally literate, with the ability to situate research within a wider context
  • An insightful analyst who can identify opportunities from research data to inform and inspire NPD/innovation projects
  • Experience in managing senior stakeholders in Market Intelligence, Marketing Innovation and Design
  • Enthusiastic team player, who is eager to learn and help 
  • Strong eye for visual communication, with proficiency in InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop 
  • Good written communicator, able to summarise ideas and observations clearly and concisely 

Key tasks

Client service

  • Lead and manage research components of FMCG innovation projects to ensure projects are delivered on time and to budget including setting up relevant tools and processes
  • Write and contribute to proposals
  • Liaise with clients and key stakeholders to deliver high-standard client service

Client projects

  • Work with project leads to deliver a range of projects to include in-home interviews, shop-alongs and digital diaries
  • Lead the set-up, moderation and capturing of qualitative consumer research
  • Analyse consumer research data to help uncover insights and identify opportunities
  • Assist in the set-up, running and capturing of client workshops
  • Develop compelling communication tools, including: presentations, summary booklets , persona posters, experience map posters and videos


  • Keep abreast of key developments in research methodologies to share knowledge with the team
  • Assist in developing our research offer
  • Maintain and develop tools, equipment and processes to improve operational efficiency

Innovation strategy consultant

Knowledge, competences and experience

The key areas of knowledge, competencies and experience you will need:

  • A background in product/packaging design or design management, preferably educated to post-graduate level
  • Experience in consumer packaged goods and in particular front-end innovation projects
  • Experience of managing projects and project teams
  • Able to juggle priorities to get things done in a fast-paced and often changing environment
  • Can systematically breakdown and tackle problems
  • Able to deal with complexity, ambiguity and paradox
  • Can design new and actionable project, research and  workshop  processes
  • Can communicate recommendations in a clear, well-structured and visually-engaging manner, and within a compelling narrative to senior client audiences
  • Works rigorously with a high attention to detail and quality
  • Has experience of running creative workshops that encompass multiple business perspectives
  • Can write successful proposals and managing project budgets

Key tasks

  • Guide consumer packaged goods client teams through front end innovation project processes
  • Design new project, research and workshop processes
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams of 3-5 people, which include both people at Plan and external partners, including setting team priorities and managing time use
  • Understand and develop cogent points of view on our clients’ key issues
  • Plan and facilitate scoping and opportunity identification workshops
  • Deliver insightful, strategic and compelling presentations to senior management audiences
  • Help to develop our key accounts by being responsive to client needs, gathering intelligence on their business and being proactive in identifying and converting new opportunities
  • Develop new Plan processes, tools and resources
  • Coach junior staff in the development of their capabilities and project delivery

Service strategist

Help develop our product-service strategy accounts by managing and delivering projects, and providing excellent client service.

Knowledge, competences and experience

  • 3+ years experience as a service designer/researcher for digital experiences, preferably educated to post-graduate level in a related discipline
  • Experience of applying a variety of service design methodologies to a variety of complex business challenges – particularly at the front-end of the process
  • Able to create compelling service visions and develop strategic concepts, looking at the bigger picture (people, business, technology)
  • Able to systematically break down and analyse a client problem, and work creatively to develop a process to solve it
  • Experience in planning, managing and conducting qualitative research
  • Experience in planning and facilitating effective collaboration workshops
  • Appreciation of technical and organisational implementation issues around service design
  • Able to develop cogent points of view on service strategies and share confidently with team, client and partners
  • Can communicate recommendations in a clear and visually engaging manner, and with a compelling narrative to senior client audiences
  • Experience in writing successful proposals and managing project budgets
  • Used to juggling projects, priorities and resources

Key tasks

Service design strategy

  • Research and analyse contextually (social, technological and competitive)
  • Map service ecosystems and blueprints and direct their visualisation
  • Plan user research, lead insight analysis and identify opportunity areas
  • Envision product-service concepts
  • Create frameworks, tools and training programmes that enhance our clients’ organisational abilities
  • Facilitate client forums and training events alongside company Directors and Consultants

Business and offer development

  • Work with Directors to break down and structure clients’ issues and frame new projects
  • Help write proposals for complex product-service strategy projects with existing and new clients
  • Contribute to  business development meetings
  • Develop Plan’s service strategy capability

Client service

  • Deal with clients empathetically and confidently
  • Recognise and anticipate client needs and explore ways Plan can help
  • Resolve difficult questions and issues
  • Build trust and relationships
